In the context of establishing and expanding its international market position in Asia, the Crailsheim-based manufacturer of packaging machines has been collaborating with Winckler & Co., Ltd. as a trade representative in Japan since the beginning of 2020. At this year’s FOODtech in Makuhari, Japan, Winckler presented packaging technology from Schubert at its stand with the Flowpacker for the first time since the beginning of the trade partnership. FOODtech is considered one of the largest B2B trade fairs for food processing and automation technology in the Asian region and took place from 25 to 27 November 2020 both live on site and virtually.

Winckler is a German trading company that was founded in Yokohama as early as in 1885. Over the last decades, it has established itself as one of the leading importers of European industrial machinery to Japan. It offers its customers and partners the highest level of technical expertise and service quality in the various branches of industry. “Its broad presence in several centres throughout the country and Winckler’s strong commitment to service are an excellent fit with our own corporate philosophy. This is exactly the trading partner we were looking for to expand our business activities in Japan,” says Marcel Kiessling, Managing Director Sales and Service at Schubert, who is delighted with the new partnership.

Michael Voelskow, sales representative at Winckler and contact person for Schubert, is also proud to represent the interests of the well-known specialist for packaging machines from Crailsheim in Japan: “Good accessibility and a comprehensive, distinctive support structure with a direct local approach play a major role in the demanding Japanese business culture. We are pleased to open doors for Schubert with our extensive experience in this field, which would previously have been much more difficult to penetrate due to cultural differences.”

Foodtech Japan is an important trade fair in Asia for Schubert

Winckler recently opened a large door for Schubert at this year’s FOODtech Japan. The industry fair is one of the most important platforms for European specialists in packaging and automation technology to build business in Japan and Asia. The high number of exhibitors in this special year alone clearly underscores this. In 2020, in spite of the current pandemic, 400 companies presented their latest technologies for the food manufacturing and processing industry – live or virtually on site. At its trade partner’s stand, Schubert showcased the Flowpacker, one of its most versatile packaging machines. From packaging a single product to cartoning an entire range in just one machine, the Flowpacker stands out with its compact design and highly developed robot technology, which leaves no customer wishes unfulfilled in its flexible application.

Live demonstrations of the Schubert’s Flowpacker sparked lively interest among visitors from the food manufacturing and processing industry.

A broad range of services and industry knowledge in the japanese market

In addition to this and other planned trade fair appearances, Schubert will benefit from the fact that Winckler is represented in Japan with several offices and technical centres in Yokohama, Nagoya and Kobe. Additionally, the trading company distinguishes itself worldwide with its extensive knowledge of a wide range of industrial sectors. In addition to specialised expertise in the areas of food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics and printing, the portfolio includes services such as technical consulting, customer training, installation support, a variety of on-site services and troubleshooting.

As with the Schubert family business, the importer’s multilingual sales staff act as project managers, focusing on a narrow product range. They accompany a project with and for their customers through all phases of the project lifecycle. The objective is to offer all services from a single source: from the initial machine design to long after the customer’s production has started.

Schubert presents itself prominently on the homepage of its Japanese trade representative with its flexible and extremely compact modular machine program. In short profiles, picker lines and packing lines are presented along with the Flowpacker and Cartonpacker.

Gerhard Schubert GmbH at the Fachpack 2024 trade fair in Nuremberg

With the new EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) along with increasing demands for climate protection across the board, the packaging industry will have more than enough to discuss at this year’s Fachpack.‘Transition in Packaging’ is the event’s fitting motto from 24 to 26 September 2024 in Nuremberg. Visitors to the fair will have an opportunity to find out about the full range of sustainable, cost-effective solutions that Schubert, the packaging machine manufacturer from Crailsheim, has developed for consumer goods manufacturers at Stand 244 in Hall 1. As an example for the new ‘Power Compact’ machine concept – high output in the smallest space with lean yet high-quality technology – a bar packer with a single-lane erector and feeding via the Comfort Feeder will be in operation at the stand. The Schubert experts will also be demonstrating how further sustainability potential through the interaction between packaging and machine technology can be harnessed.

Schubert at Automation UK 2024

Last year, Automation UK took place for the first time in Coventry, England. As a result of its resounding success, the trade fair for automation and robotics is now entering its second round – and will be taking place this year on 18 and 19 June. Schubert UK Ltd will, of course, be participating once again. Schubert’s UK sales location was not only an exhibitor last year, but it is also a co-founder of Automation UK. In the CBS Arena at Stand F10, the British team, led by Mark Stepney, will be providing information on the Germany-based company’s latest highly flexible, efficient, and resource-saving solutions for packaging products of all kinds and from all sectors. This year, visitors to the Schubert stand will have an opportunity to view a tog.519 cobot live and in action. At Automation UK, the mobile robot will be demonstrating how it can pick & place unsorted products at speeds of up to 90 cycles per minute using the AI-supported vision system.
