Sustainable and cost-effective packaging technology

The packaging market is facing a new challenge worldwide, as resource-saving and sustainable packaging is increasingly in demand. As an innovation driver, packaging machine manufacturer Gerhard Schubert GmbH is committed to reconciling sustainability and cost-effectiveness in packaging. Schubert customers benefit from the global market leader’s exceptionally efficient machine technology and comprehensive consulting.

Sustainable and cost-effective packaging technology

With Schubert as a partner, companies can successfully position themselves for the future in line with current and upcoming market requirements relating to sustainability. The packaging machine manufacturer not only offers customers its highly flexible, robot-based top-loading technology, but also combines this expertise with an in-house packaging development team and the know-how of the experts at Schubert-Consulting. After all, the more reliable the packaging process in the machine and the more efficient the use of packaging materials, the more sustainable the entire packaging will be. Michael Graf, Director of Schubert-Consulting and Head of the Sustainability Expert Group at Schubert, explains: “Profitability and sustainability go hand in hand here. We make this potential fully available to our customers on request with every machine. Together with the manufacturers, we can optimise packaging in such a way that they benefit several times over. That extends to more sustainable logistics even when one more carton ultimately fits onto the pallet.”

Thanks to advanced packaging technology, Schubert machines can easily switch from conventional to sustainable packaging.

A sustainable and flexible machine concept

Schubert’s modular machine concept and the consistent use of robotics ensure the optimal, long-term and sustainable basis for this: The modular system is so flexible that packaging machines can be tailored exactly to the desired customer requirements. The machines can process conventional packaging materials such as plastic trays or composite films, as well as modern sustainable packaging made of cardboard or recyclable flowpack films. It is even possible to switch between the two types of packaging within the same line. Additional formats or a changeover to more sustainable packaging materials can also be implemented in a Schubert machine at a later date without any major effort.

Manufacturer-independent consulting

To be able to make a packaging process more efficient and sustainable in its entirety, Schubert is deeply committed to always being an experienced and strong partner for its customers. The experts at Schubert-Consulting specialise in providing targeted advice along the entire supply chain in a strategically favourable, early planning phase. Michael Graf explains: “Thanks to our manufacturer-independent consulting services, we are already today in a position to help customers make the switch to sustainable packaging materials. As early as in the planning stage, we pay attention to the perfect interplay of materials, technology and know-how – from cardboard trays to paper-based films. The concepts stand out with their flexibility, quality and efficiency and therefore set standards throughout the industry.” The sustainability expert adds: “As a well-known innovation driver for outstanding packaging and robotics technology, we are also strongly positioned in the areas of digitalisation, connectivity and artificial intelligence integration. This is embodied in the many trailblazing projects undertaken by our subsidiaries in the field of cobot development, Schubert Motion, Schubert Additive Solutions and Schubert Consulting.”

For customers in China, packaging machine manufacturer Schubert has been active in the greater Shanghai area with a sales and service office since 2018. The team supports companies from the food, confectionery, beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and pet food industries in implementing efficient, sustainable and future-oriented packaging processes.

Packaging Perspectives – Sustainable packaging from the word go

Sustainable packaging begins long before automation kicks in: Automated packaging processes can only be efficient and cost-effective if the recycling package and the machine itself are perfectly matched to each other. This is the target Schubert has set for itself with its new “Packaging Perspectives” program: Through consulting, packaging development and research, the technology leader aims to actively support its customers on their sustainable journey into the future.
