An efficient and flexible automation solution
- Special pre-grouping allows more products to be placed into the carton
- Efficient use of secondary packaging
- Packing in cartons or plastic crates
Requirements
Special pre-grouping enables an additional layer of plastic blisters per carton
Packaging sliced cheese in plastic blister packs into cartons:
The packaging line from Schubert enables 10 per cent more sliced cheese to be placed in display cartons
Cheese manufacturer and supplier Jermi supplies supermarkets with sliced cheeses such as Gouda and Edamer. In order to meet the high demand, the existing production had to be increased to twice the output. However, sliced cheeses with many holes have a peculiarity: in order to achieve the identical product weight in every package, the number of cheese slices per plastic blister needs to be adjusted. Very holey slices require more volume for the same weight and more protective gas gets into the package. This results in the deep-drawn blisters constantly varying in terms of height and lid curvature. For Jermi this meant that with the existing line, the number of cheese packages that would fit into the carton varied constantly. The TLM line from Schubert now offers a far more efficient packaging solution thanks to a special pre-grouping process.
Solution
The display carton is completely filled
At Jermi, a compact TLM packaging line consisting of five sub-machines is now in operation. In the system, F4 robots pre-group the sliced cheese packages, which are then stacked in the display cartons in piles. The blisters are compressed and make full use of the space in the carton.
Thanks to the special pre-grouping, we can accommodate an additional layer of plastic blisters in the display carton.

Technical Details
Special pre-grouping increases efficiency
Two Transmodul lines are integrated into the system. One of them pre-groups the products and the other one transports the display cartons. While the cheese packages are run through the system, the carton blanks are denested from the magazine and erected. F4 robots pick up the cheese blisters from the feed belt and place them into the appropriate cassettes on the Transmodul. From there, F2 robots remove the pre-grouped cheese packages and place them in piles in the tilted display cartons. Finally, to be able to push the covers into the display boxes from above, a robot pushes the plastic blisters inward through two extra integrated cardboard cut-outs from the rear of the cartons. The TLM machine also assembles blisters in plastic crates. The packaging system now enables the customer to achieve highly efficient production.
- 5 sub-machines
- 270 products per minute
- Up to 13 formats
- Special pre-groupinguse
- Transmodul in use
F4 robots pick up the plastic blisters from the product belt and group them in the correct position on the Transmodul.
The pre-grouped cheese packages take full advantage of the space in the display boxes.
To be able to insert the cover into position, the blisters are pressed inwards from the rear panel through specially integrated cardboard cut-outs.
